Hand Stamped Brass Sun Earrings with Raw Citrine Stone

Beautiful, polished brass Suns with a dynamic texture feature raw, hammer-cut citrine gemstone coins dangling in the center. The irregular chiseled surface of the yellow gemstones catches the light and enhances the overall cheerful character of these sun earrings. These handcrafted brass dangle earrings swing on my handmade and antiqued brass ear wires with spiral detail.

1 ½ inches wide, the suns will hang like large hoops, sometimes sideways (parallel to your neck) and sometimes forward to show their sunny faces.

To make these earrings, I started with precut brass washers I commissioned from a small shop, with the pointed sun outline and a hole in the middle. These blanks have a large inside hole of about ¾ inch diameter. I drilled, filed, sanded, and polished the brass to be smooth where they might touch you. I designed the texture to be like the active sun, swirling with energy and sometimes ejecting a burst into space.

I used a Celtic spiral stamp and a curved line punch turning them this way and that as I stamped my way around the brass shape. After texturing, I worked the discs to dome them, antiqued the brass to bring depth to the texture, then polished again for a nice shine.

For these earrings I chose 12mm (about 7/16 inch) citrine hammer-cut coins. The yellow color blends so well with the brass metal which was just what I needed to convey my  “yellow sun” or “sunshine” concept. My handcrafted brass ear wires continue the energetic spiral design with a hammer-textured spiral detail above the drill hole.
