Long Dangle Earrings in a Western Style, Buffalo Earrings

Long dangle earrings feature fetish-style carved golden amphibolite bison, turquoise stone beads, and copper charms that I made and textured in a Western motif.

The American Bison is an impressive beast. Vast herds of them once roamed the Great Plains. Also called “Buffalo” they were significant to the Native American people who lived in their ranges.  Buffalo represented Good Fortune, Healing, Prophesy, and the Fulfillment of Powers.

The buffalo beads measure about 15mm tall by 20mm head to tail. I wired them in copper and topped each buffalo with a thin chip and small rondel of genuine turquoise. The turquoise chips are irregularly shaped, about 1 x 8mm. The rondelle shaped turquoise stones are 3 x 4mm. The copper charms are square washers, 30mm on the diagonal. These I textured with western style stamping tools then antiqued the copper to deepend the impressions. They have the look (almost) of tooled leather. Ear wires are handcrafted from 20-gauge copper.

Length = 2 5/8 inches

Weight = 5.2 grams (each earring)

Golden amphibolite is a metamorphic rock, a combination of minerals transformed over time. The amphibolite in golden amphibolite has largely transformed into hematite, goethite, and quartz. It has a golden sheen from plates and flakes of iron oxides within the rock.

Golden Amphibolite is useful to repel negative energies. A stone of courtesy, it might even instill a positive nature in those around you!
