Multi-color Harlequin Pearl Necklace, Two Strand Brass, Copper, and Freshwater Pearl Necklace with Baroque Pearl Pendant

My handcrafted multi-color harlequin pearl necklace features a baroque pearl pendant and a two-strand neckpiece of colorful freshwater pearls with brass and copper accents. This luscious pearl necklace has an art nouveau aesthetic from the drape of the two strands, a tiny flower embellishment on the pendant, and colorful mismatch of pearls and beads. 

I am drawn drawn to Victorian and Art Nouveau jewelry styles in general. The “harlequin” gemstone necklaces of the time are so lovely to me. An assortment of gems in seemingly every color were used in the day: individually set gemstones dangling from necklace chains. This percolated a bit and finally emerged from my brain to my workbench. I designed this necklace in that spirit. I decided to make a beaded necklace with multicolor pearls and glorious mixed metals to cshowcase the beautiful large pearl pendant.

The pearl pendant was pre-drilled with a fairly large hole. I covered the hole by designing my bail to have a petite sterling silver flower, hand cut and textured, held against the pearl by the torched ball end of the copper wire I used to form the loop. The bail is wrapped with sterling silver wire and I added a bronze color pearl to decorate the drop.

I used baroque freshwater cultured pearls ranging in size from ~7mm to 4mm semi-round, coin, and rice shapes and random colors pulled from my open strand and orphan pearls. There are green, bronze, taupe, peacock, gray, burgundy, pink, purple, coral, golden yellow, and orange pearls in the mostly pearl strand of this two-strand necklace. In-between the pearls are glass seed beads in a greenish brown color, fluted copper plated brass beads, and brass saucer beads. The outer strand is mostly brass and copper plated brass beads in 2-3mm size. A few pearls dot the metal beaded chain. The two necklace strands are brought together at a simple closure: my handcrafted copper s-hook and copper rings. Close with either hand.

I love the mix of rich color and the golden glow of brass in this necklace adding such warmth to the rainbow iridescence of the focal pearl. With oxidized silver, brass, and copper metals too, you can feel free to pair this beauty with any other jewelry you like.

This necklace is 16 + a smidgen inches long. Pendant drops 1 1/2 inches.
