Twisted Sterling Silver Dangle Earrings with Moss Aquamarine Gemstone

These rustic twisted dangle earrings with moss aquamarine gemstone drops are unique March birthstone earrings. The sterling silver dangles are hand worked from strips of metal that I curved and twisted vertically into a helical form. Richly antiqued to a blackened appearance, the silver has been buffed, revealing bright highlights along the edges of the ribbon shape. The dark oxidized silver creates a moody backdrop for the moss aqumaine gems. The stones are a pale green to blue-green color and they look like dewdrops on a twisted vine.

  • Slightly over 3 inches long (77mm)
  • Aquamarine teardrops measure about 0.25 inch wide by 0.31 inch long

  • Sterling silver strip and wire
  • Moss aquamarine
  • Handcrafted sterling silver hooks

"Moss Aquamarine" seems to be another one of those inventions of the bead trade and marketing. Sorry to say, but it is very difficult to find gemological information on the stone. It seems likely that it is beryl, like aquamarine, but lower grade material than would make fine faceted gems (since aquamarine is desirable in the blue aqua color and with high clarity). I find the little speckled inclusions kind of interesting and rustic, and the dew-like color really lovely. If you like it too, then these earrings would be an interesting addition to your March birthstone jewelry collection. Or perhaps you just like the intriguing pale gemstones in combination with antqiued silver, then these are fun everyday earrings for you.
