This handcrafted necklace is made from pure copper link chain attached to a handcrafted station chain of red jasper and turquoise copper wire wrapped stone links. There’s an exotic design hand forged and wire wrapped focal decorated with jasper and turquoise at the front of the chain where a short natural stone pendant dangles like a tassel. The inset centerpiece and tassel give the necklace its gypsy vibe as it creates a curving urn-like or goddess shape at the front rather than a sharp v-shape like a traditional necklace with a pendant.

I used red jasper and turquoise natural stone beads in a variety of shapes and sizes. The urn-shaped centerpiece is decorated with tiny round beads that are securely wired onto the wrought copper foundation. The stones follow and highlight the curving design. Extra wraps of copper wire add texture and depth. The tassel is made from a large nugget of marsala red jasper, a small fine silver bead, and turquoise stones in both round and disk shapes. It hangs 1.75 inches long. Working up the chain from the centerpiece there are three stone and copper links using 8mm (about 3/16-inch) round red jasper stones; the third link is embellished with a small turquoise round and a fine silver cylinder to match the tassel.  The next stone station comprises two rice-shaped jasper beads with a bright turquoise round in the middle. As the wire wrapped stone links give way to all copper chain I used small round red jasper beads and a tiny pebble shape of turquoise to transition. The solid copper chain at the back of the necklace is an oval link cable style with a very smooth feel and soft drape.

The copper wire and chain has been antiqued to a dark brown color. I’ve waxed the piece and buffed up some bright copper highlights. The fine silver beads are also lightly antiqued. Their ridged surface glints brighter than the grey recesses.

This lovely draping gypsy necklace closes in two positions: 26-inches or 19-inches. I made copper hooks for each end of the chain. If you close the hooks against each other it makes 26-inches if you bring the hooks around the sides of your neck, they’ll close on a large round eye worked into the tiny turquoise pebble link. This doubles the copper chain behind your neck and allows you to shorten the length to 19.
