Here's a pair of multi gemstone earrings in the colors of the Scottish Highlands. These copper wire wrapped gemstone earrings feature an arched copper frame and a little fringe of amethyst faceted stones beneath a layered infill of multicolor gems.
I was inspired by the beautiful landscapes of the Scottish Highlands that I've seen in photographs and have bounced around in my brain for a bit. I love the palette of rich greens, golden overtones, purple heather, thistle, and heath, and the mist over lakes or in highland skies. It's definitely a bucket-list "to see in person" someday.
You know how hilly country always has layers in view? Whether it’s a gradation in tone as you view near and farther away hills or whether you see sunlight and cloud play on the ground below AND in the sky above? I made these earrings with that feeling in mind - as if looking out over a highlands view from an ancient castle relic’s arrowslit: near and far green hills and rocky outcrops, hillsides covered in heather, a distant loch (lake) reflecting the sky and ultimately giving way to real clouds in a wan blue sky.
A celebration of gems and color, I used mostly 2.5-3mm faceted round gemstones - rainbow moonstone, labradorite, bicolor kyanite, ruby zoisite, stichtite, Canadian jade - and faceted flat amethyst teardrops. The gemstones are wired in tiers onto my hand forged copper “castle-window” frames. Earwires are handmade by me in STERLING silver.
