Mixed Metal Pendant Necklace with Jasper Zuni-Style Bear Beads and Pyrite Natural Stones

Here is a mixed metals pendant necklace with a stone link station chain of small zuni-style jasper bear beads and pyrite natural stones. My handcrafted metalwork pendant in solid copper and sterling silver, depicts a mountain range with pine forest and star-speckled sky and crescent moon. I created the scene by drawing and cutting out a mountain profile in sterling silver sheet, texturing by filing and polishing the crevasses that separate the peaks. The sterling silver mountain range is soldered to a copper backing in a half-moon shape. While I was at it, I soldered a tiny silver crescent moon to the copper sky. I textured the sky with stamped stars and the silver mountainside with a forest of trees. A dark patina enhances the stamped textures.

The chain is hand-wired in copper with stone stations of 10x14mm black silver leaf jasper zuni bears, silver leaf jasper 6mm rounds, and pyrite crystal nuggets that are about 6mm across. The station chain is attached to a length of pure copper cable chain toward the back of the necklace. It closes with my handcrafted S-hook and rings.

Length – 22 inches with inset pendant of 1-inch height.

This whimsical moonlit mountain scene with bears came to mind when I was chuckling over a cartoon I saw. It’s a picture of a camping tent with occupants zipped in for the night. There's a veritable crowd of bears all around the tent outside. The talk cloud above the tent says “You’ve got to stop thinking that every sound you hear is a bear!”

Sometimes things that go “bump” in the night…are bears!

This necklace with its moonlit mountain scene pendant and jasper bears would make a great gift for any woman who loves the mountains and is in tune with Nature. She would appreciate the Native American symbolism around bears. Bear is considered courageous and strong, but also adaptable. The Bear can show us how times of introspection and isolation can make us stronger.

The (mostly) copper necklace is a brilliant 7th anniversary gift for your wife who loves camping or hiking or simply admiring the mountains in moonlight.
