Herkimer Diamond Handmade Sterling Silver Necklace, Spiral Galaxies Inspired Necklace

A Herkimer diamond (quartz) necklace, handmade in antiqued sterling silver, presents an impression of a spiral galaxy in the heavens.

Our Milky Way Galaxy is a spiral galaxy, The spiral arms of this type of galaxy glow brighter due to the presence of younger, higher energy stars. Astronomers estimate there are about 100 billion stars in the Milky Way alone. Outside that, there are millions upon millions of other galaxies also! 

I created this necklace with gorgeous, clear Herkimer diamonds to suggest the stars, and a hand wrought hammered sterling silver spiral focal as the galaxy. The progression of stars appears to rise off the spiral arms of the focal (though they stay within the arms of a real galaxy).

Handcrafted in sterling silver, the spiral galaxy element measures about 16 x 42mm. I used one pair of extra large Herkimer crystals, they measure 10 x 13mm. I selected subtly graduated, smaller herkimer diamonds 8- 6mm across,  for the rest of the links.  The Herkimer quartz links and sterling spiral focal are inset at the from of a rectangular link cable chain, also sterling silver. The closure is my handmade hook and eye with twisted wire details.

The necklace is finished at 21 inches long. There is some adjustability by closing on the links of the chain. As shown on the mannequin, a ladies size 6 dress form, the necklace is 19 inches long. I feel this is a good length for showing the silver work and gemstones the best. But this height on one person might be 16 inches but 21 inches for someone else. I am happy to shorten the necklace to your preferred length (shorter than 21).
