Rainbow moonstone is more accurately described as "white labradorite" and is the same type of mineral as labradorite, a plagioclase feldspar. True moonstone is also in the feldspar family, but with different components and structure. What sets rainbow moonstone apart from its very lovely moonstone cousins, is its opalescent fire and flash in an ethereal white to clear-ish white background.
