Rustic brown chohua stone earrings feature large, circular coins of the interesting brown stone, topped with a wrap of sterling silver wire and tiny turquoise gemstones and a crusty, multicolor raku-fired ceramic bead.

To make these earrings, I chose chohua stone, also known as "artistic stone" or "artistic jasper" for its warm brown color and satin-like semigloss polish. The large coin shaped beads have markings in grey and black as if they were painted in pen and ink. Indeed another name for these focal stones is "chinese painting stone". I used sterling silver wire, with a dark oxidized finsh, to string the chohua stone beads. One end of the wire passes through the large brown stones and a irregular round ceramic bead at the top. The other end of the wire passes across the face of the Chinese painting stone and is wrapped around the waist between that stone and the raku ceramic bead. After a couple wraps I strung 2.5 mm faceted round turquoise beads onto the silver wire and continued to wrap the center of the earrings. The turquoise, in shades of brown and green, is the perfect transition between the brown in the chohua stone and the multicolor iridescence of the raku glaze.

These artisan earrings measure 2 1/4 inches long from the top of the ear wires. Each earring weighs 4.4grams which is less than the weight of a US nickel coin.

Part of my Fall Twilight collection, these earrings exude an earthy warmth and rustic textures you'll love to wear with your favorite fall ourfits.
