I wish I knew more about the “Gobi red agate” stones. I can’t be sure that the name under which they were sold was not just a bead marketing name rather than a real location for the source. They are quite dense like desert tumbled agates, but clearly have been cut into beads and the surface finish – somewhere between matte and semi-gloss – must have been achieved after cutting and made to look like desert tumbled stone. I purchased them for the wonderful color, teardrop shape, and interesting surface that enhances the fiery glow that was perfect for these sunshiny earrings.
